MUI Said Even though Polygamy Is Heavy, But Not Tainted by Islam.

WartaJurnal. Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Zainut Tauhid Saadi said asserting polygamy was not a practice that tarnished Islam. Because, polygamy is a sunna with requirements according to Islamic law.

"Polygamy can be a sunna if it meets the requirements," Zainut said in Jakarta on Monday (17/12).
Even so, he said polygamy could become chaotic and even haram if it caused harm or injustice and injustice to his wife and family.

Zainut further said that polygamy is one of Islamic law.
"Many of us find propositions or arguments both in the Qur'an and Al Hadith which allow a Muslim to commit polygamy," he said.

However, he said that in the practice of polygamy it is not easy for everyone to do because there are some requirements that are quite heavy.
These requirements, he said, for example, first a polygamist must have a fair attitude among his wives.

Second, he continued, must increase his piety to God. And third, must be able to guard his wives, both guarding religion and honor.
"Fourth, it is obligatory to fulfill the physical and spiritual needs of the wives and their families," he said.
He acknowledged that the ulamas were indeed dissenting at least split into two issues of polygamy.

First, Syafiiyah and Hanbaliyah circles. Syafiiyah seemed to close the door of polygamy because it was prone to injustice so that they did not advocate the practice of polygamy.

While Hanafiyah states that the change in the practice of polygamy with the record of potential perpetrators can ensure justice among all of his wives.

"At present there are Islamic countries that prohibit polygamy for several reasons such as in Morocco," he said.
While most other Islamic countries, he said, allow polygamy, including in Egypt, but regulated by law on the terms of the man must include his salary slip.
Whereas in Indonesia polygamy is regulated in Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage article 4 paragraph (1).

In it mentioned polygamy can be carried out with several conditions, including obtaining permission from the Religious Court which is strengthened by the agreement of his wife / wives, has the guarantee of the ability to provide for his family, and the obligation to be fair to his wives and children.

Previously the Chairperson of PSI, Grace Natalie rejected all forms of polygamy and prohibited all administrators and candidates from carrying out these practices. In the future, PSI will fight for the enforcement of a ban on polygamy for public officials in the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary as well as state civil apparatus.

Grace said that based on LBH APIK's research on polygamy, it was concluded that in general the practice of polygamy caused injustice, which resulted in women being hurt and abandoned children.
